Jakarta, Kominfo – The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is currently preparing a radio frequency spectrum (SFR) for the needs of 5G implementation. According to the Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate, digital transformation in Indonesia currently requires a frequency of 2047 Mhz until 2024.<\/p>\n
:Currently Indonesia already has 737 Mhz and needs to do farming and refarming frequency of 1310 Mhz until 2024 for all levels, both lowerband, coverage layer and superband. In that context, of course, during farming and refarming the frequency is also for deployment needs (development of telecommunication infrastructure) from 5G,” said Minister Johnny after the Press Conference on the results of the meeting with the Qatari Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Fawziya Edrees Salman Al-Sulaiti, in the Multipurpose Room. Ministry of Communication and Informatics Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (15\/07\/2020).<\/p>\n
The Minister of Communications and Informatics explained that for 5G itself, Indonesia needs around 1880 Mhz. Therefore, to all cellular operators, Minister Johnny conveyed that after the ongoing trial, the current success on the ultra high frequency.<\/p>\n
“For the medium and lowerband, it will definitely work. Now we invite all (cellular operators) to start preparing for 5G development, including Indosat and Ooredoo,” said Minister Johnny.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Communications and Informatics stated that Indosat and Ooredoo recently launched satellites to replace the Palapa D Satellite which has been used for broadcasting purposes in Indonesia. However, the orbital period of the Palapa D Satellite will end in August so it needs to be replaced.<\/p>\n
“Where there are 27 broadcasting institutions that use the Palapa D Satellite. The replacement satellite is called the Nusantara II Satellite which was launched a few months ago but failed to reach orbit so it is now empty,” he said.<\/p>\n
Minister Johnny himself just received information from the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), which has granted the request of the Indonesian government to maintain the 113-degree orbital slot for Indonesia to place a new satellite later.<\/p>\n
“However, because Indosat and Ooredoo decided not to continue the satellite business, then of course we have to look for new satellite providers,” explained Minister Johnny.<\/p>\n
Previously, in a meeting with the Qatari Ambassador Fawziya Edrees, the Minister of Communication and Informatics said that if Indosat and Ooredoo did not cooperate in investing in satellites, the Government hoped to divert their investment to continue ICT infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
“I just reported this morning that you have fixed slots for Indonesia, of course after this we will talk about filling the satellite according to the schedule until 2024 for various purposes, specifically for telecommunications purposes, be it C, KA or KU bands, That’s what we’re prepared for,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
