Makassar, 26 September 2025 \u2013 Makassar Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) held the Environmental Waste Management Socialisation in support of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking programme. The event, which took place at I Wayan Bendhi Hall, was opened by the Director of Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, Dr. Herry Rachmat Widjaja, M.M.Par., CHE., and was attended by the academic community. In his speech, Dr. Herry Rachmat Widjaja emphasised that waste management should not be viewed as a mere obligation, but rather as an important step in safeguarding the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWaste management is an important step for the future. With the synergy of various parties, we can have a global impact while strengthening the campus’ position in international rankings such as UI GreenMetric,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Herry also explained that this event was held to commemorate World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on 27 of September each year. This year’s theme is \u2018Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.\u2019 This theme emphasises the importance of responsible travel practices, including choosing environmentally friendly accommodation, reducing waste, respecting local culture, and supporting the local economy.<\/p>\n

The socialisation featured three main speakers. Wahyu Nursekhah Wijayanti, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., opened the session with a presentation on Waste Management.<\/p>\n

The event featured three main speakers. Wahyu Nursekhah Wijayanti, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., opened the session with a presentation on Waste Management ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance). She shared her experiences in waste management practices that have been implemented in the Accor Group network, particularly at Mercure Hotel, which has successfully implemented a waste sorting system and sustainable food waste management.<\/p>\n

The second session was led by Badruddin, who discussed Smart Waste for Green Tourism. He emphasised that sustainable tourism cannot be separated from proper waste management. According to him, innovation and environmental awareness in the tourism sector must go hand in hand to ensure that tourist destinations remain attractive and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n

The final presentation was delivered by Surayyal Hizmi from Lombok Tourism Polytechnic, who invited participants to observe the practice of organic waste management firsthand. In this session, participants not only learned the theory behind the use of eco-enzymes, but also had the opportunity to demonstrate the production of eco-enzyme liquid from fruit peels, as well as the production of liquid soap and solid soap made from environmentally friendly materials.<\/p>\n

The activity, which ran until the afternoon, received positive feedback from participants. In addition to enriching their knowledge about waste management, the activity also provided practical experience that can be applied in daily life.<\/p>\n

Through this socialisation, Makassar Tourism Polytechnic hopes that all elements of the campus, from lecturers and students to support staff such as canteen managers, cleaning staff and gardeners, can work together to build an environmentally conscious culture. This initiative also strengthens the institution\u2019s position towards international standards in sustainable rankings such as UI GreenMetric, UC (University Ranking Comparisons), and THE (Times Higher Education World University Rankings).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
