Minister of Industry Encourages TKDN in 5G for Digital Infrastructure

Jakarta, Kominfo – Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita revealed that the information and communication sector has shown positive growth in the last three years. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has also had a big impact, with the emergence of a new normal in the use of digital technology, so that it can be promising for the supporting industries in the sector.

“In line with this, Mr. President Joko Widodo has instructed to accelerate digital transformation,” said the Minister of Industry in Jakarta, Thursday (10/6).

This strategic step is a form of implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. According to the Minister of Industry, acceleration is needed in terms of expanding access and improving digital infrastructure, preparing digital transformation roadmaps in strategic sectors, accelerating the integration of national data centers, preparing digital talent human resources needs, as well as preparing regulations for schemes and funding and financing.

Furthermore, in order to support the implementation of the implementation of industry 4.0 fundamental technology, the Ministry of Industry has supported digital infrastructure, one of which is 5G technology. 5G technology which has a combination of high-speed connectivity, low latency, and wide coverage, is very suitable to be optimized for industrial 4.0 applications.

“The Ministry of Industry is ready to encourage 5G connections to be further optimized by the domestic industry, according to the message of the President, lest Indonesia cannot get the maximum benefit from 5G and only become a user. Indonesia must get the maximum benefit from the development of 5G technology,” said Agus.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier said that the use of 5G will be focused on industrial areas to support the production of manufacturing industries using IoT technology. Meanwhile, the development of 5G technology R&D will be directed to Technoparks assisted by the Ministry of Industry in collaboration with domestic vendors.

“The Ministry of Industry is also preparing the industry in the country to provide 5G base station support devices and their applications. For the initial stage of 5G TKDN, the percentage value of the minimum TKDN threshold for mobile phone devices, handheld computers, tablet computers, and 5G mifi can follow the current values for devices with 4G/LTE technology,” said Taufiek.

The Ministry of Industry appreciates Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its initiative to invest in Indonesia by building a data center. The presence of AWS provides significant benefits to Indonesia, both in terms of investment in employment, as well as the programs being implemented.

“We hope that AWS will participate in providing insight to the manufacturing industry in Indonesia to be able to adopt cloud computing solutions so that they can become more competitive. In the future, we want the participation of AWS in building an ecosystem to accommodate digital transformation,” said the Director of the Electronics and Telematics Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Ali Murtopo.
