Jakarta, Kominfo – Executive Director of the Indonesia ICT Institute Heru Sutadi stated that the presence of 5G technology is believed to encourage the presence of more smart cities in Indonesia. According to him, the existence of 5G services is also expected to be utilized optimally to develop the digital economy for the welfare of the Indonesian people.
“Another thing is that 5G also encourages smart cities. So if we talk about the capital city of a new country, for example, it is automatic, after all 5G cannot be forgotten to be immediately adopted there,” said Heru Sutadi at the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum Discussion event. (FMB 9) entitled “Indonesia is advancing with 5G” from Jakarta, Monday (07/06/2021).
In addition, cities in Indonesia must also optimize and maximize the use of 5G for economic development, government services and others.
“If I see that we should not only be a market for technology, but how can we use this technology to be able to develop Indonesia’s digital economy for the welfare of the Indonesian people,” he said.
For this reason, he hopes that the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo) can immediately prepare and develop a comprehensive ecosystem for the implementation of 5G.
From previous experiences in 3G and 4G, explained Heru, it will take at least two years to see the development of 5G.
“Later, we will talk about what 5G can be used for. If it’s just internet access, the development may be slow, but if it can encourage the development of other technologies and answer people’s technological needs, the development will be faster,” explained Heru.
