Targeting Equitable 4G in 2022, Kominfo Implements 5G on Time

Jakarta, Kominfo – Director General of Equipment Resources for Post and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ismail, explained that the implementation of 5G technology begins when 4G network access has connected all regions in Indonesia, which is targeted for 2022.

According to Director General Ismail, 5G technology is one of a series of technological enhancements that already exist today.

“We have now come to the end of completing the 4G network throughout Indonesia, it is targeted that by the end of 2022 all villages are connected to the 4G network, that is our target,” he said in Jakarta, Monday (28/09/2020).

While completing 4G in 2022, according to the Director General of SDPPI, Indonesia is also starting the implementation of 5G, especially for needs that get useful applications for 5G. However, the Director General of SDPPI assessed that the government did not want to build 5G in an untimely manner.

“So the speed is also not better but on time. Late is not good, fast is not good. So it must be in time, it must be on time,” he explained.

According to the Director General of SDPPI Ismail, implementation is carried out when all 5G ecosystems are ready. According to him, the government does not want cellular operators to build networks by incurring very large postal costs but their utilization is not yet ready.

“It has not yet produced good national productivity, has not been able to generate a return on investment (fast return on investment). So we are working hard to prepare several prerequisites so that the implementation of 5G can be felt and the benefits will be felt immediately,” he explained.
